Over 40,000 Feet of HDD-Installed Conduit Minimizes Urban Impact.
Spanning four miles, more than 40,000 feet of electrical conduit was seamlessly installed using HDD. The Coconut Grove project introduced challenges, requiring navigation through narrow and constrained HDD workspaces. To overcome these challenges, the installation was carried out using our nimble Vermeer 120x100 HDD drill rigs and crews with expertise in working in tight urban environments. The project was completed ahead of schedule, with a total of 43,856 manhours worked without a single recordable injury.
- Twenty-eight HDD installations at fourteen different locations.
- Deployment of 40,000 linear feet of 10-inch-diameter steel and 4-inch-diameter HDPE bundled conduits.
- HDD lengths range from 800 to 2,600 feet.
- Completion of nearly all HDD installations alongside a busy highway and beneath an active metro-rail system.
Using the Direct Pipe method, a 4,900-foot-long, 42-inch-diameter steel pipe was seamlessly installed, creating a crucial link for a natural gas transmission pipeline.
